BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/bcr-2016216657 DESCRIPTION A 31-year-old female patient with systolic heart failure (ejection fraction of 30%) and automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD) was admitted to the hospital with sepsis from Staphylococcus hominis and Staphylococcus capitis bac...
متن کاملPlacement of a peripherally inserted central catheter into the azygous vein
Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) are used for a variety of infusion therapies. They are indicated in patients requiring long-term venous access. Incorrect positioning of the insertion of a PICC line is one of the known complications when inserting the device in clinical practice. Radiographers once performing imaging will commonly check if the tip of a PICC has entered the superio...
متن کاملUpper extremity deep vein thrombosis after migration of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)
INTRODUCTION Peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICC) are widely used in cancer patients and ultrasound-guided PICC insertion could improve success rate. The tip position of the catheter should be located at the border of lower one-third of the superior vena cava (SVC) and cavo-atrial junction. The migration is malposition at the late stage after PICCs were inserted, and catheter m...
متن کاملUpper extremity deep vein thrombosis: a complication of an indwelling peripherally inserted central venous catheter
We report a case of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC)-associated deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Ultrasound images and video of subclavian thrombus are presented. PICC line-associated DVT, particularly in cancer patients is not uncommon. Point-of-care Emergency Department ultrasound can readily diagnose this complication and device removal is not always necessary.
متن کاملPeripherally inserted central catheter placement using the Sonic Flashlight.
The Sonic Flashlight is an ultrasound (US) device that projects real-time US images into patients with use of a semireflective/transparent mirror. The present study evaluated the feasibility of use of the Sonic Flashlight for clinical peripherally inserted central catheter placements, originally with the mirror located inside a sterile cover (n = 15), then with the mirror outside (n = 11). Succ...
